Southern (Train Operating Company (TOC))

There are various routes operated by Southern, below is the nework view of direct routes, not showing any calling patterns;

Network:

This is the first of trains that run on the southern network is the west London Line from Milton Keynes Central via the southern part of the WCML. After the West London Line the train goes onto the BML to Croydon.

On the WCML it calls at: Bletchley, Leighton Buzzard, Tring, Berkhamstead, Hemel Hampstead, Watford Junction, Harrow & Wealdstone & Wembley Central.

Then joins the West London Line, it stops at: Shepherds Bush, Kensington Olympia, West Brompton & Imperial Wharf..

Once the train is on the BML, It stops at all stations to South Croydon.

 

Metro from London Victoria:

Sutton & Mole Valley

Horsham:

This train calls at: Clapham Junction, Sutton (Surrey) & all stations to Horsham.

During peak train also serves stations between Balham & Carshalton inclusive. Also some services are diverted to also serve London Bridge via West Croydon or Tulse Hill.

 

Dorking:

This service will call at: Clapham Junction, Sutton (Surrey), Cheam, Epsom, Ashtead, Leatherhead & Dorking.

During the peak these services are generally extended to/from Horsham serving Clapham Junction & all stations between Balham & Horsham. Also services can be diverted to Guildford or London Bridge via Tulse Hill or West Croydon.

 

Epsom/Epsom Downs

Via Mitcham

2 trains an hour call at: Clapham Junction, Balham & all stations to Epsom via Mitcham.

During peak extended to Horsham/Guildford & some from Mitcham to London Bridge via Tulse Hill.

 

Via West Croydon

One train an hour to Epsom calls at all stations via Norbury & West Croydon.

One train per hour to Epsom Downs calls at all stations via Norbury & West Croydon.

During the peak these also serve London Bridge via West Croydon stopping at: all stations to Norwood Junction then London Bridge.

 

Sutton (Surrey)

Via Norbury

Two trains an hour call at: Clapham Junction & then all stations to Sutton (Surrey) via Norbury.

 

Via Crystal Palace

Two trains an hour call at all stations via Crystal Palace.

 

Outer South London Line

London Bridge

Two trans per hour call at all stations to London Bridge via Crystal Palace & Sydenham.

 

Caterham Line

Two trains an hour call at all stations via the mainline down to Purley.

during the peak these combine with Tattenham Corner services some calling at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon & all stations to Purley before dividing, then all stations to Caterham. The other stops at all stations & dividing at Purley.

On Sunday the train calls at Clapham Junction, Balham, Streatham Common, Norbury, Thornton Heath, Selhurst, East Croydon, Purley, then all stations to Caterham.

 

Tattenham Corner

Only served during peaks, early mornings and late evenings.

 

Early Mornings or Late Evenings

Trains serve all stations via the mainline.

 

Peak

There are two different types 1 semi-fast splitting with Caterham at Purley with the following calling points: Clapham Junction, East Croydon & all stations to Tattenhsm Corner.

The other calls at all stations dividing at Purley.

 

BML from Victoria

Brighton

Prior to December 2015

There are three trains an hour to Brighton, with two fast trains & one semi-fast train.

The two fast trains call at Clapham Junction, East Croydon & Brighton.

Southbound services stop at East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Burgess Hill, Hassocks and Brighton.

Northbound services stop at Hassocks, Burgess Hill, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon, Clapham Junction & London Victoria.

 

From December 2015

The fast train has been merged with the Gatwick Express to stop at Gatwick Airport & Brighton.

A half hourly semi-fast service serving Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Horley (hourly) or Gatwick Airport (Hourly), Burgess Hill (Hourly) or Hassocks (Hourly) & Brighton.

 

via Arun Valley

Off-peak prior to December 2015

One tain per hour to Southampton Central & Bognor Regis calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Redhill, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Horsham, Barnham, Chichester, Southbourne, Emsworth, Havant, Cosham, Portchester, Fareham, Swanwick & Southampton Central. The Bognor portion divides at Horsham, then calls at: Christs Hospital, Billingshurst, Pulborough, Amberley, Arundel, Ford, Barnham & Bognor Regis.

One train per hour to Portsmouth Harbour & Bognor Regis calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Redhill, Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Horsham, Barnham, Chichester, Havant, Fratton, Portsmouth & Southsea & Portsmouth Harbour. The Bognor portion divides at Horsham, then calls at: Billingshurst, Pulborough, Arundel, Ford, Barnham &Bognor Regis.

 

Off-peak from December 2015

One train per hour to Southampton Central & Bognor Regis joined together no longer calls at Redhill.

One train per hour to Portsmouth Harbour & Bognor Regis joined together no longer calls at: Redhiil or Horley.

 

Peak

The Horsham trains from London Bridge (explained below) divert to London Victoria. These call at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood, Salfords, Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Ifield, Faygate, Littlehaven & Horsham. These services can also, combine with other services splitting at Redhill.

The Southampton/Bognor or Portsmouth/Bognor serve a few other stations too & most services avoid Gawick Airport to serve other destinations.

 

Redhill Branches

Peak

The first one is on the North Downs Line to Reigate. This operates once an hour calling at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill & Reigate. These services also join with others splitting at Redhill.

The other goes to Tonbridge stopping at the same stops until Redhill. Then calls at Nutfield, Godstone, Edenbridge, Penshurst, Leigh & Tonbridge. These are also connected to other services until Redhill.

 

From December 2015

These two routes have a diversion from London Bridge to London Victoria. Both services will no longer serve stations between East Croydon & Redhill.

The Reigate service calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Redhill & Reigate.

The Tonbridge service calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Redhill, Nutfield, Godstone, Edenbridge, Penshurst, Leigh & Tonbridge.

West Coastway from London Victoria

Prior to December 2015

The slow Littlehampton portion calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Preston Park, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham-By-Sea, Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea, Goring-on-Sea, Angmering & Littlehapton.

The Fast Littlehampton train calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Hath, Hove, Shoreham-By-Sea, Lancing, Worthing, West Worthing, Durington-on-Sea, Goring-on-Sea, Angmering " Littlehampton.

 

From December 2015

The slow service calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Preston Park, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham-By-Sea, Lancing, Worthing, West Worthing, Durington-on-Sea, Goring-on-Sea, Angmering & Littlehampton.

The fast service calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Hove, Shoreham-by-sea, Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea, Goring-on-Sea, Angmering & Littlehampton.

 

East Coastway from London Victoria

Prior to December 2015

The Ore train Southbound calls at: Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Plumpton, Lewes, Polegate, Eastbourne, Hampden Park, Pevensey & Westham, Cooden Beach, Collington, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Square, Hastings & Ore.

The Ore train Northbound calls at: Hastings, St Leonards Warrior Square, Bexhill, Collington, Cooden Beach, Pevensey & Westham, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, Polegate, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon,Clapham Junction & London Victoria.

The Eastbourne train Southbound calls at: Claham Junction, East Croydon, Gatwick Airport, Haywards Heath, Wivelsfield, Lewes, Polegate, Hampden Park & Eastbourne.

The Eastbourne train Northbound calls at: Hampden Park, Polegate, Lewes, Plumpton, Wivelsfield, Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon, Clapham Junction & London Victoria.

 

From December 2015

The Ore service no longer calls at Plumpton.

The Eastbourne service also calls at Plumpton Northbound.

 

Peak

Both the Ore & Eastbourne stop at additional stations en route.

 

Oxted Lines

All trains from London Victoria serve the East Grinstead Branch. These trains all serve Clapham Junction, East Croydon, Saunderstead, Riddlesdown, Upper Warlingham, Woldingham, Oxted, Hurst Green, Lingfield, Dormans & East Grinstead. During the peak also serve South Croydon.

 

Metro from London Bridge

Beckenham Junction

This train calls at: South Bermondsey, Queens Road (Peckham), Peckham Rye, East Dulwich, North Dulwich, Tulse Hill, West Norwood, Gipsy Hill, Crystal Palace, Birkbeck & Beckenham Junction.

 

West Croydon via Streatham

This train calls at: South Bermondsey, Queens Road (Peckham), Peckham Rye, East Dulwich, North Dulwich, Tulse Hill, Streatham, Streatham Common, Norbury, Thornton Heath, Selhurst & West Croydon.

 

Tattenham Corner

Off-peak daytime

The Tattenham Corner train calls at: Norwood Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Reedham, Coulsdon Town, Woodmandsterne, Chipstead, Kingswood, Tadworth & Tattenham Corner.

 

Peak

During the peak this services is formed with the Caterhsm service. These services call at: Norwood Junction & all stations to Purley where they split, before continuing all stations to Tattenham Corner.

A second services calls at all stations via Sydenham & East Croydon.

 

Caterham

Off-peak

This train stops at all stations via Sydenham & East Croydon.

 

Peak

This train has two different calling patterns both are attached to the Tattenham Corner service. The first goes all stations to Purley, before splitting then continues all stations to Caterham. The other calls at Norwood Junction, then all stations to where it splits at Purley, before stopping all stations to Caterham.

 

via Redhill

Horsham

Off-peak daytime

This train calls at: New Cross Gate, Norwood Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill, Earlswood, Salfords, Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Ifield, Faygate (limited), Littlehaven & Horsham.

 

Late evening/Peak

This service does not call at: New Cross Gate.

 

Tonbridge

Off-peak Prior to December 2015

These trains call at: Norwood Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, Redhill, Nutfield, Godstone, Edenbridge, Penshurst, Leigh & Tonbridge.

 

Peak prior to December 2015

Trains join together from Horsham, Reigate, Tonbridge or Three Bridges. These trains call at: Norwood Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South,, Merstham & Redhill where they split. Then the Tonbridge service calls at: Nutfield, Godstone, Edenbridge, Penshurst, Leigh & Tonbridge.

 

Off-peak from December 2015

Trains will be diverted to operate from London Victoria, these also have different calling points (explained above). In the peak the timetable has yet to be investigated.

 

Reigate

Off-peak Prior to December 2015

These trains call at: Norwood Junction, East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill and Reigate.

 

Peak

The trains call at the same places, but combine with Horsham, Three Bridges or Tonbridge.

 

Off-peak from December 2015

Trains will be diverted to operate from London Victoria, these also have different calling points (explained above). In the peak the timetable has yet to be investigated.

 

East Coastway from Brighton

A shuttle train operates once an hour to Lewes calling at: London Road, Moousecombe, Falmer & Lewes.

There are two trains an hour to Seaford calling at: London Road, Moousecombe, Falmer, Lewes, Southease (hourly), Newhaven Town, Newhaven Harbour, Bishopstone & Seaford.

There is one train an hour to Ore calling at: London Road, Moousecombe, Falmer, Lewes, Glyne, Berwick, Polegate, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, Hampden Park, Pevensey & Westham, Pevensey Bay (limited), Normans Bay, Cooden Beach, Collington, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Square, Hastings & Ore.

There is one train per hour to Ashford International calling at: Lewes, Polegate, Eastbourne, Bexhill, St Leonards Warrior Square, Hastings, Ore (Limited), Three Oaks (two-hourly), Doleham (limited), Winchelsea (two hourly), Rye, Appledore, Ham Street & Ashford International.

 

West Coastway from Brighton

There are two shuttles an hour serving Hove only.

Two trains per hour to West Worthing calling at: Hove, Aldrington, Portslade, Fishersgate, Southwick, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lancing, East Worthing & West Worthing.

One train an hour to Portsmouth Harbour calling at: Hove, Portslade, Southwick, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lacing, Worthing, Angmering, Barnham, Southbourne, Emsworth, Havant, Fratton, Portsmouth & Southsea & Portsmouth Harbour.

One train per hour to Southampton Central calling at: Hove, Portslade, Southwick, Shoreham-by-Sea, Lancing, Worthing, West Worthing, Durrington-on-Sea, Goring-by-Sea, Angmering, Ford, Barnham, Chichester, Emsworth, Havant, Cosham, Fareham, Swanwick & Southampton Central.

 

From Littlehampton

There is one train per hour to Portsmouth & Southsea calling at: Ford, Barnham, Chichester, Fishbourne (Sussex), Bosham, Nutbourne, Southbourne, Emsworth, Warblington, Havant, Bedhampton, Hilsea, Fratton & Portsmouth & Southsea. These services are ocassionally extended to also serve Portsmouth Harbour.

Thre is also one train per hour shuttle to Bognor Regis, calling at: Ford, Barnham & Bognor Regis.

During peak trains also, operate to/from London Bridge calling at most main & smaller stations.
